How do the Fama Behaviors work?

The Fama Behaviors use machine learning technology to determine what a post or article is about. The technology is able to analyze text, images, and links. The Flagged Content categories cover the most common types of online behaviors that may be considered job-relevant by an employer. These behaviors include Cannabis, Crime, Trolling, Intolerance, Other Drugs, Sex, Threat, and Violence.

The Community behavior leverages that same machine learning technology. Clients may use the Community behavior to identify individuals for CSR initiatives, construct a more holistic understanding of a candidate's character, or learn more about causes the candidate is passionate about. Frequent Community results include donations, community service, and volunteer work. 

Keyword Groups

We understand that your organization may have specific criteria you use to evaluate individuals that fall outside the Fama Behaviors. The Keyword Groups will help you screen for these behaviors and traits. There are two types of Keyword Groups - Included Keywords and Excluded Keywords. Both of these Keyword Groups allows for custom behavior types - Exact Keywords and Fuzzy Keywords.

Exact Keywords

Exact Keywords allow clients to add in a word or phrase and return posts and articles that contain that exact word or phrase. Clients use keywords to investigate topics ranging from technical skills to industry specific threats to indicators of financial irresponsibility.

Fuzzy Keywords

To provide a bit more flexibility to the Exact Keywords, Fama developed the Fuzzy Keywords feature. This feature will also look for words that begin with the entered word OR are a verb stem of the entered word. For example, entering the word “smoke” will look in posts and articles for “smoking”, “smoked”, “smokes”, etc. By using the Fuzzy Keywords, Fama clients can ensure they aren’t missing content that contains a different version of the word than they thought of.

These four behavior types – Community, Flagged Content, Exact Keywords and Fuzzy Keywords – comprise Fama’s search filters. Combined they provide clients with a robust set of tools that are intelligent enough to account for a wide swathe of relevant content while also customizable enough to meet highly specific search needs.
